Drupal's Halloween Document

The proprietary CMS vendor Sitecore has published their own Halloween Document, called "The Siren Song of Open Source CMS".

Sitecore's whitepaper is a futile attempt to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) about Drupal and other open source CMS.

Dries Buytaert blogs today about Sitecore FUD:

Where have you seen this kind of FUD before? From any proprietary software
vendor that is starting to feel competitive blows from an Open Source
alternative. I see this white paper as a victory for Open Source and Drupal
as they are being forced to call us out. Drupal is hurting them. Sitecore
has reasons to be afraid.
For us who have been around for a while, this reminds a lot about Microsoft's attempt in the late 90s to spread FUD about open source. They outlined their FUD-strategy in a series of confidential memoranda. They were leaked close to October 31, and hence named the Halloween Documents.
 
Microsoft later realized that open source is a force that can't be stopped; so they changed strategy from fighting to embracing open source. Sadly, Sitecore, EPiServer and most other proprietary CMS vendors don't have the courage to embrace open source. We will therefore see proprietary CMS vendors meet a slow and painful death.
